Jenn-Air Oven F4-E0 Error: Sensor Short Circuit
What Does Jenn-Air Oven Error Code F4-E0 Mean? The F4-E0 error code on Jenn-Air wall ovens means the oven temperature sensor (RTD) has a short circuit. The sensor resistance is reading much lower than expected, indicating the wires inside the sensor probe are touching. Common Causes Internally shorted RTD sensor: The platinum wire element inside […]
Quick Assessment
Answer to continue safely
Is it safe to keep using?
No. Without an accurate temperature sensor, the oven cannot regulate heat safely. Do not use the oven until repaired.
Can I reset the code?
No. A shorted sensor is a hardware failure — the error will return immediately after any reset.
When to stop immediately?
Stop if you notice: Sensor reads near zero ohms, Wire insulation is visibly melted.
Symptoms You May Notice
Oven will not preheat or heat at all
The control board refuses to energize heating elements because it cannot trust the temperature reading.
Display shows abnormally high temperature reading
A shorted sensor makes the board think the oven is already very hot, even when cold.
Possible Causes
Internally shorted RTD sensor
The platinum wire element inside the sensor probe has failed, creating a short circuit.
DIY PossiblePinched sensor wire harness
The wire from the sensor to the board is pinched against the oven cavity, shorting the conductors.
Requires ProfessionalSafe Checks You Can Do
-
1
Measure sensor resistance
Unplug the sensor connector at the back of the oven. Measure resistance across the two pins — should be approximately 1,080 ohms at room temperature.
A reading near zero ohms confirms a shorted sensor that needs replacement.
Tools required -
2
Inspect the wire harness
Trace the sensor wire from the back wall of the oven to the control board connector. Look for areas where insulation is melted or wires are pinched.
The harness often gets pinched when the oven is pushed back into its cutout during installation.
When to Call a Professional
Contact a qualified technician if:
- Sensor resistance far below 1,080 ohms at room temp
- Wire harness shows burn damage
- Replacing the sensor clears the error
