When to stop immediately?

Symptoms You May Notice

Standing water remains in the tub

After a cycle ends, several inches of dirty water remain at the bottom of the dishwasher.

Safe Checks You Can Do

These checks are safe for homeowners. No disassembly required. Do not remove panels or access internal components.
  1. 1

    Check the disposer connection

If connected to a garbage disposer, run the disposer to clear any blockage. For new installations, verify the knockout plug was removed.

Shine a flashlight into the disposer inlet port — you should see through to the dishwasher hose.

  2. 2

    Inspect the drain hose

Check under the sink where the drain hose connects — ensure it is not kinked, pinched, or looped below the connection point.

The drain hose should loop up to the underside of the counter to prevent backflow.

When to Call a Professional
